"Product" relates to how sound and vibration is perceived, generated and controlled. The subject area is subdivided in Vibration and Structural Acoustics, and Sound and Acoustic Quality. Applications and commissions are typically within Automotive and machinery; Nuclear and energy production; Railway technology; Process industry; Marine and Oil & Gas (Onshore or Offshore); Building construction.

Vibration and Structural Acoustics focus on structural dynamics, structure borne sound, fatigue, harmful exposure to vibration and reduced production and process quality. Typical applications are: Impact test and Modal analysis; Reciprocal measurements of transfer functions; Illustration of transient responses and "Operational Deflection Shapes"; FE-modeling for structural and coupled fluid-structural dynamics; Dynamic material testing; Shock and vibration testing and Education.

Sound and Acoustic Quality refers to the expectations that the sound of a product or a process should match the brand image, give required feedback and fulfill legislation. A good sound is optimized for a specified goal and context and is a balanced mix of partial sources with a suitable character and spatial distribution. Consultancy is given in the sub areas: Expectations, requirements and targets; Source characterization; Simulation and auralization; Subjective judgments; Psychoacoustic modeling; Quality control and monitoring; Active control.

Suitable solutions require expert knowledge within acoustics, structural dynamics, signal processing, psychoacoustics, measurement technology and numerical modeling.

Product Development
Listen. Feel. Each and every product affects us in many ways. Is your computer nice and quiet? Does the power drill make your hands shake? How about your camera – does it have the right click? Industrial products designed to keep sound and vibration under control have a competitive advantage on the world market. They keep hearing disorders and vibration injuries to a minimum. They help increase machine availability. And they most certainly boost your product and company image. Through ingenious sound andvibration design, ÅF can help you increase product value and customer satisfaction.

Designing Product Sounds
Designing Product Sounds
Designing Product Sounds - Our exciting world of sound and vibration consulting does not only involve techniques to reduce noise. When designing products you want to control the “aural impact” of your product and in this process it is equally important to shape and even create the sounds your product will generate.

Automatic balancing
Automatic balancing
Automatic balancing - A cost efficient way of solving imbalance problems, Applying the technology with automatic balancing opens up a path of solving imbalance problems by continuously balancing your machine. In this way noise and vibrations are reduced, expected time of life increased and manufacturing cost decreased. An automatic balancer is fitted on the rotating shaft, which contains freely movable balls. The balls will then position themselves in such a way that they compensates for variations in imbalances within a fraction of a second.

Vibrations and structureborne sound from railbound traffic - Listed below are some assignments where ÅF have been involved in noise and vibration predictions, measurements and reduction of vibration and structureborne noise from railbound traffic:

Sound and vibration in Vehicles
Sound and vibration in Vehicles
Passengers in vehicles enjoy peace and quiet, but the interior sound and vibration environment is even more important for the driver. The Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) attributes must ensure good ride quality as well as adequate driver’s awareness and reaction capability. NVH as a mean to improve the image of a brand is today a part of our reality. ÅF-Ingemansson offer a wide range of know-how to identify, rank and reduce noise and vibration sources as well as pinpoint sound and vibration paths using measurements and vibro-acoustic simulation. We also help to develop or optimise the sound quality for different types of engines, exhaust systems, control buttons, handles, levers and much more order to match the desired brand image or for a more expensive feel.
